What is lip augmentation?

It is a cosmetic procedure which is used to change the appearance of your lips. It enhances and makes them appear fuller and plumper. There are two options in lip augmentation- temporary and permanent. Temporary ones are non-surgical and usually boost up your lips for a short period of time. Permanent option uses surgically inserted lip implants to give your lips a permanent change.

What is the most natural lip filler?

Well that is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. It is a substance that is naturally found in the human body and fillers which contain this substance are safer and better than any other fillers available out there. It is ideal for hydrating and plumping your skin as well as your lips. It is certainly the most preferred filler because it gives more of a natural look.

Do lip injections hurt?

All the injections come with a numbing medication, but still the surgeon can use anaesthesia and numb the area around your lips. This is usually done with an injection in your gums. (just like a dentist would do it).

How is lip augmentation with implants performed?

It involves flap grafts, generally taken from skin, tissue or muscle from inside of your mouth. Synthetic implants can also be used. An incision is made along the inside of your lip corners, implant is inserted and then the incision is closed using the sutures. The surgery procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and takes up to two hours typically.

What should I expect post surgery?

You can expect your lips to be tender and swollen a little bit. After the surgery, you need to take extra care of your lips for some days at least. Numbness lasts for about a week and you might face difficulties in eating or drinking for some time.

When will I be able to see the results?

You can see the results almost immediately. After the implants and most of the injectables, you will see swollen lips, and a noticeable difference as soon as the swelling goes away.

What are the risks of lip augmentation?

There are minimal risks associated with lip augmentation procedure. Sometimes, permanent discolouration may occur from the bruising. Also, if you are allergic, some products or implants can cause allergy issues and infections in the mouth.

Is lip augmentation reversible?

Lip augmentation done with an implant is reversible, but the temporary injectables are not. The effect of temporary injectables disappear on their own as the time passes.
